Which doctor should I see for leg pain, swelling, varicose veins or a foot wound? A vascular specialist can assess suspected artery or vein problems. A general physician is a useful first contact when the cause is unclear. Sudden symptoms, a possible blood clot or an infected foot may need urgent hospital assessment.

Which doctor treats artery, vein and diabetic-foot problems?

A vascular and endovascular surgeon assesses blood-vessel disease and considers medical care, minimally invasive treatment and surgery. Seeing a surgeon does not mean you need an operation. Source 1.

Your concern A practical next step
Repeated calf pain during walking Clinical assessment for circulation and other causes.
A newly swollen, painful leg Urgent assessment for a possible clot or another acute cause.
Aching, prominent veins or ankle skin changes Vein assessment, with duplex ultrasound when appropriate.
A new wound in a person with diabetes Prompt foot assessment; severe infection needs emergency care.
Persistent swelling of both legs Medical assessment, including possible systemic and medication-related causes.

Why does my calf hurt when I walk and improve with rest?

This pattern can occur with peripheral arterial disease (PAD), where leg muscles receive insufficient blood during activity. It is not diagnostic: joint, muscle and nerve problems can also cause pain. Explain how far you can walk, where the pain occurs and how quickly it settles. Sources 4 and 5.

Is swelling in one leg a sign of DVT?

It can be. Deep vein thrombosis is a clot in a deep vein. New unexplained one-sided swelling or pain warrants urgent assessment; symptoms alone cannot confirm or exclude it. Chest pain or breathlessness alongside leg symptoms requires emergency care. Source 2.

Does swelling in both legs always mean poor circulation?

No. Leg swelling may relate to veins, medicines, prolonged sitting or standing, or heart, kidney and liver problems. A consultation helps decide which investigations and specialty input are needed. Source 6.

Do all varicose veins need laser treatment?

No. Symptoms, skin changes, complications and ultrasound findings guide care. Varicose-vein treatment may include conservative measures or a suitable procedure. The visible appearance alone does not decide the treatment. Source 8.

Can a diabetic foot wound be serious even without pain?

Yes. Nerve damage can reduce pain sensation, while poor blood supply can delay healing. Arrange prompt assessment of a new sore or ulcer. Do not use absence of pain as evidence that the wound is safe. Read about diabetic-foot assessment. Source 3.

What happens at an Advitiya appointment?

Advitiya brings together Dr Siddharth Matad, Vascular & Endovascular Surgeon, and Dr Naveen Chandrashekhar, Vascular & Interventional Radiologist. The team confirms which specialist is appropriate; joint review depends on the problem. Hospital-based procedures are coordinated separately when required.

Bring previous prescriptions, scan images and reports, your medication list and a short symptom timeline. Assessment and a recommendation for testing do not automatically mean a procedure is needed.
